The Art Of Communication.

The other day, I almost fell asleep during a Powerpoint presentation which was particularly bad news since I was the one making it!

Seriously though, when presentations are generally dull for those of us who are accustomed to them, what hope is there for transmitting detailed information to those not normally in such an audience? As Hugh rightly pointed out in his Hughtrain update, "the future of advertising is internal", so the quest for a common language is increasingly critical.

Now, Kathy Sierra has extolled and continually demonstrated the benefit that graphics bring to communication, but what about transforming the presentation into a single visual like this one created by Delta7?


All those pages of strategic thinking and creative insights distilled into a single A3 picture. An image which visualises the thrust of the thinking for all the people, from shop-floor to boardroom, who need to understand it and who can refresh their comprehension with a single glance to the wall. And not a buzzword or mission statement in sight.

I'm not good enough at this to have a single picture that says it ALL, but my goal is to have enough in my pictures (when I can) so that the actual blog post words are just filling in some extras or explaining my thinking.

For me, the real benefit of using graphics is that it helps cover my weak writing skills ; )

While I'm here... I keep meaning to say something about your minifesto, too. Another reason I use graphics is because I'm not capable of saying the right things in such a small space. That's a talent you have.

Weak wriitng skills? Yeah right - you're singularly able to captivate and intentionally generate laughter (by your words that is and not your equine escapades!).

To have Kathy Sierra comment on your blog, saying that something in your post is amazing and at the same time "confess" about "weak writing skills" is wickedly beyond the blogging nirvana...

Even I won't dare enough to dream that way...

Choosing the right perfume can be difficult and because it is also considered an intimate gift buying the wrong perfume

can backfire on you and get you the opposite result of that which you hoped for.

The first thing you need to do is do some homework, meaning research. Look at your lady's perfume bottles, the ones that

are nearly empty will be her favorites. If there is one there that is nearly full chances are she doesn't wear it often

or doesn't like it. Hint around and ask her what types of fragrances she likes and dislikes.

Humans are very sensory oriented and our sense of smell is no different. Certain perfumes can elicit strong reactions in

both the wearer and the person reacting to the scent. Perfumes are made not only to attract but to also relax someone. If

you aren't totally sure what kind of perfume to buy you can always play it safe and get something in the aromatherapy

line. If you go this route, bear in mind that vanilla scents are considered to relax and a peppermint or lemon scent will

be more stimulating.
